If you've visited the Historic Daniel Lady Farm, then you have likely met Lady and Nathan. Their story is one of resilience, devotion, and the quiet power of compassion.

Lady is a striking black-and-white mare with a gentle soul and wise eyes. We noticed she was not her usual self, and placed a call to the vet. After a thorough exam and workup, Lady was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, a condition that requires daily medication to keep her healthy and comfortable. That medication alone costs $5 every day. To stay sound and pain-free, Lady also needs special senior feed, extra hoof care, and more frequent vet visits, all essential parts of her daily comfort and long-term well-being.

By her side is Nathan, a senior gray gelding and Lady’s bonded companion. Where Lady goes, Nathan follows. Their connection brings calm, safety, and emotional stability to them both. While Nathan doesn’t require special medical care, he does share Lady’s nutritional needs and must also eat the same special feed to stay healthy.

Together, Lady and Nathan go through about two 50-lb bags of feed each week—that’s eight bags a month, totaling over $200 monthly. That's just for feed, and doesn't include hay. When combined with Lady’s medication and care, their monthly support needs add up quickly—but the impact of that care is priceless.
